Hey Wes, any chance you would consider doing some posts on Pokemon card investing? This is a part of the market that seems extremely interesting, but it's hard to know where to start. Thanks!
Do you have experience with Pokemon at all, or just looking to get into it?
If you're unfamiliar with the franchise it's a very challenging time to get into it right now unless you just want to buy some booster boxes and forget about them for a decade.
If you want to get into the nitty gritty details such as singles and making speculative plays outside of sealed booster boxes, you have to recognize that you're going against people with 30 years of experience and they will be several steps ahead of you for the time being.
It's a brand that everyone wants to FOMO into right now, so proceed with caution if your product knowledge is limited.
It's also a 401(k) type play, very long term holds compared to regular toy investing which you can often flip in a year or two.
Happy to answer any questions, been involved with Pokemon since I was 6.
Thank you for the link, will read up! I am unfamiliar with the franchise, so your cautionary warning is appreciated. I like the combination of a strong franchise and high $/sqft (space is starting to get a little tight with the Lego inventory), but don't want to pile into something that could end up oversaturated.
Just have to remember that right now is uncharted territory. We've never seen these 10x multiples on Pokemon in such a short period of time. It isn't normally like this. It's completely illogical. Almost everything is at an all time high. So strategies that worked years ago will still work, but will likely just take longer because of saturation and weaker buy cost.
But again, treating it like a 401(k), on a 5-10 year scale, Pokemon makes you money. Just don't allocate a large portion of your cash to it.
Personally I think right now is the worst time to be buying Pokemon for long term holds because Q4 is right around the corner and you'll want every penny you can get for Q4 deals (unless you're flipping Pokemon right away).
But nothing wrong with learning the franchise and starting to get some footing

Makes complete sense. I will do some reading and come back with any questions. Thanks for taking the time to answer!
