Toys to Retirement Weekly Wrap-Up #39
Hello friends,
Happy August! Can you believe Q4 is just two months away? We’re seeing all the signs of summer coming to a close. Clearance is reaching new lows, sellers are starting to dogpile on listings of 2024 retired LEGO in anticipation for Q4, and many discontinued SKUs are starting to mature nicely.
At this point in the year I’m all about finding every penny I can to make sure I have as much capital for our peak buying season. Death pile is being listed with very aggressive price drops every few days, getting rid of the last of my weak inventory, and constantly repricing the items I don’t think have much more room to grow so that they sell faster.
Anyways, let’s dive into the week.
2025 LEGO Theme Analysis: Creator
Did a video analysis (and text!) of one of my favorite themes in recent years. And actually came across some very interesting things that may change where a large portion of my LEGO investing capital is going this year…
Peep it here:
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Spoilers Ahead)
First images have been revealed of the Spidey suit that will be used in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie next July. On top of that, set photos have leaked and it seems like we’ll be seeing Punisher, Hulk, Tombstone, Scorpion, and possibly Mr. Negative in the same movie. Definitely street-level villains, which Marvel desperately needs after so many cosmic threats.
The most important thing to make note of however, is the performance of the No Way Home SKUs from the last movie (B0BKJVHBXX, B0BKJD9QP9, and B0BKH9C114).
These three ASINs are PRIME examples of how movie-based Marvel Legends figures of popular characters perform throughout their lifespan. It’s no coincidence their Keepa charts are all vastly similar.
Study them, and learn to identify OTHER toys that follow the same pattern.
The typical pattern is: the figure releases, is massively profitable, then everyone sees the data and orders for the next production run, the figure becomes break-even or not profitable due to a crowded listing and people panic selling, and then slowly starts to climb back to profitability. Tell me, where do you want to be in this cycle?
Either the beginning or the end!
Can you find any other figures out there right now that are likely to follow the exact same trajectory? I can think of at least two right off the top of my head…
Riftbound Creeps Closer…
We are months away from the launch of a new game that could possibly shake up the trading card game world - Riftbound! The League of Legends team seems to want some of that Magic/Pokemon/One Piece pie, and more details are starting to unveil themselves.
Why does this matter to us? Well, the developers will be pushing the collectible aspect of the game in a unique way. Overnumbered cards will be one in every three booster boxes, and AUTOGRAPHED cards will be one in every thirty.
For full details, check this link: https://riftbound.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/news/announcements/collectability-in-riftbound-origins/
Will the collectible aspect of this game drive up the price on sealed product quickly after release? Will these be worth holding? Guess we’ll see how the market unfolds for the chase cards.
Awesome LEGO GWP
If you’re staying strong in the LEGO investing game, a solid GWP has presented itself for a respectable $130 threshold. Not a bad time to start picking up some retiring sets!
Going to wrap things up here folks, hope everyone has a great August!
