Toys to Retirement Weekly Wrap-Up #49
Black Friday is in full swing!
Some LEGO/Black Friday Analysis
Earlier this week (before Walmart announced the Black Friday deals) I did some analysis on what is rumored to be on sale in the coming weeks, along with some additional SKUs I think are great investments this year.
Check it out here:
Don’t forget to check out Walmart’s deals not only online, but in-store as well (Pokemon anyone?). Remember, this is just the first wave of deals - more to come!
A lot of stuff sold out in minutes, despite Walmart not publicizing the deals until an hour beforehand.
Phantasmal Flames Release Day
Target, Walmart, Gamestop, Barnes & Noble - it’s launch day for one of the most hyped sets of the year! Though the market has been a little sideways or down from the peak, there is no denying Pokemon is still HOT. If you’re out and about doing RA, make sure to give the card section a glance and see if you get lucky. Heck, maybe even rip some packs and see if you can get even luckier with one of the most hyped cards ever printed - Mega Charizard.
The End of Funko?
You may have seen the news circulating - Funko is struggling (if you couldn’t already tell). Financials and specifics aside, the question is — what does this mean for us?
If Funko truly bites the bullet, I expect the Funkos that are hyped just because of their sticker to crash. No one will care about Freddy Funko ten years from now. No one will care about a diamond glitter She Hulk because she only had 5,000 units made.
But people will care about a regular, mainline Umbreon. A regular mainline Stitch. A regular mainline Toothless.
Not because they’re collectible and rare, but because of the character and how displayable and giftable Funko is (at a solid price point).
If Funko truly comes to an end, I’ll be stacking the popular characters at sub $8 and waiting for the $29.99 price point that is very accessible to customers.
