Toys to Retirement Weekly Wrap-Up #46
Hello friends,
Q4 is in full swing! Target and Walmart are currently running great deals, Prime Day has come and went, and customers are starting to get in the ‘buying mood’. Although I’ve heard Prime Day was lackluster for most, don’t let that discourage you — Q4 really starts in the middle of next month.
With that being said, I hope you all managed to take a look at my “Target Sale LEGO Highlights” video/article from earlier in the week. You can check it out here:
Walmart Collector Con
One of the highlights of the week has been Walmart’s Collector Con, online releases exclusively available at Walmart (and the manufacturer sites, usually).
We’re already seeing some high demand toys sell out, including the McFarlane Batgirl and McFarlane Glow in the Dark Bane.
You can browse what’s left here. If you missed out, usually some of these will pop in store or occasionally restock online as orders get canceled later. Keep an eye out!
Another Hasbro Made to Order Figure
Hasbro must have enjoyed the success of Mephisto, as they have quickly turned around and unveiled another made to order release - Apocalypse! The community is a bit taken aback, $120 plus tax for a 12-inch figure is pretty insane, but it’s expected to see a bit of a price increase on made to order toys. With that being said, once it’s made, it’s not getting made again, so it’s pretty hard to lose money on figures like this. We also have a catalyst coming up next year with X-Men 97 season two releasing. It really just comes down to — how much will we need to sell it for to like the profit? This will definitely be at least $10 to ship on eBay, likely more, and you’ll of course be subject to almost 15% in fees. So if we sold it for $200, best case we’d probably net about $30…
Not the worst thing in the world. But you have to ask yourself… will people pay $200 for this? If they will, it definitely won’t be right away, you’ll have to wait out the people selling for $10 profit.
Torn on it, might grab one to sell locally, but we’ll see. Always worth keeping an eye on these limited time exclusives.
Minecraft Sequel Has a Date!
July 23, 2027. A ways off, but never too late to start thinking ahead. These are usually my favorite types of plays, wait for the first movie toys to start getting clearanced, go deep, and then sell them during the second movie release.
With that being said, we need to see how the CPC stuff rolls out on Amazon and Walmart so this is a post-Q4 type of thought. Will re-visit in the new year, but good to start thinking about it.
Friendly Reminder About Distributors
With Walmart making our contacts public, you may have noticed in uptick in spam calls and calls from ‘distributors’. These distributors may be legit, but never forget — can you prove that?
Authentic and legitimate goods are obviously the most important thing, but if you can’t prove that to the Walmart and Amazon overlords — it’s meaningless.
I’ve been experiencing an annoying amount of calls related to this lately, and so want to encourage everyone to do their due diligence before committing to any sort of grey area distributors. Don’t risk your accounts over a risky deal, there is plenty of opportunity knocking in Q4.
