First of all, I need to apologize:

I spent one hour recording an in-depth video for this, but my recording software didn’t have my microphone input. You can imagine my frustration when I finished the video, only to find out it has 0 audio.

My throat is raw and all enthusiasm is gone, so instead of re-recording I’m going to be typing it up.

Some notes before we dive in:

  • Things can change at a moment’s notice. I may go into Black Friday with a game plan of which sets I want to buy, but if a retailer does a hefty discount on something unexpected, I could completely pivot. It is imperative that you keep your eyes and ears open — be active on social media, be browsing the retailer sites, and be on the look out for the deals that are constantly popping up. Simply copying this list and buying these SKUs is not the best strategy because it is a loose game plan. Again, things change. Stay vigilant, I won’t always be there to tell you what to buy.

  • Keep in mind that I buy toys with the intention of selling them preferably by the 12-15 month mark. Sometimes I’ll stretch that out to 18-24 months, but I really aim to be able to sell within a year. There are several objectively GREAT sets retiring that I don’t invest in because I believe they will take 2+ years to reach an ROI I am content with. My picks will be different from others. Pick sets that fit your goals.

  • This list is NOT all-inclusive of what will be in my portfolio. These are just the sets I am the most intrigued/interested in/already buying. If you look back at my theme analyses, there are still several sets in the ‘Worth Monitoring’ category that may become winners based on discounts. The sets listed below are just the ones that I’m confident will be in my portfolio in some capacity, but I’m not opposed to having more.

Some quick inspiration…

Here are some sets that are performing great since retiring in the last year. I want to replicate sets like these:

LEGO 76230 Venom

100%+ ROI in a year. Love that this set had respectable ROI almost instantly after Amazon went out of stock and steadily climbed all year. Had two catalysts with the Venom movie and Q4.

LEGO 60394 ATV and Otter Habitat

100%+ ROI in a year. Short shelf life, low seller count. Flew under the radar.

LEGO 40625 Brickheadz Minecraft Llama

100% ROI immediately since retiring. One of the best investments of last year. Exclusive.

Some performances I don’t want to replicate…

LEGO 10784 Spider-Man Webquarters

Even though this set is going to perform decently by the end of the year, I dislike when Amazon is in stock the entire year post-retirement. It means that if we need to liquidate for any reason (better opportunity, emergency, etc.) that we LOSE money. I prefer sets that Amazon is likely to not carry past retirement so I have that safety net of being able to liquidate for a profit if needed.

LEGO 31130 Deep Sea Treasure

Same as above.

Sets I’m trying to get the most of…

These are sets that I want to make up the bulk of my portfolio. I think they have the most potential to generate a dollar amount that meets my goals by Christmas 2025 and present a very low risk. Some of these are wishful thinking however, as they may not be discounted to a point that I like or perhaps were only discounted once and never again. They are in no particular order.
