A Year of Preparation Paid Off Today
Over 30k spent on toys!
Over $30,000 spent in the last 24 hours.
What’s crazy is that this $30,000 spend can turn into $30,000 profit if I do this one simple thing… nothing.
That’s right. If I do nothing and just put the fries in the bag at McDonalds, the $30,000 worth of toys I bought today will eventually net me 100% ROI.
Some of them will reach that in a few months. Some will reach that in two years. Regardless of the timeline, there’s nothing quite like toy investing.
Now am I actually going to wait for 100% ROI on everything? Probably not. But the profits from today will be enormous either way.
If you’ve been a paid subscriber for the last year, you know I’ve been drilling the following things into the newsletter as often as possible:
Arrive early to sales, timing is key
Arrive prepared to sales, having an idea of what you want and what could be going on sale allows you to react faster
Analyze and liquidate your weaker inventory before peak season so that you have capital for days like today
Avoid the herd (hopefully no one started this sale by refreshing the Darth Vader Helmet. We all knew that would be in stock awhile, you should’ve been looking for the less obvious, less produced SKUs at the start of the sale because several sets sold out in minutes)
Let the retailers guide you, don’t form emotional attachments to certain SKUs (I did not expect one of my most purchased LEGO sets so far this year to be the Phone Booth or the Space Roller Coaster, yet here we are)
Track everything on Keepa. So much free money was given out today as Amazon matched Target and provided the same deals sales tax-free
And much more.
I’ve received a handful of excited messages today stating how happy they are that the hours of product research and tracking has finally paid off. My strategies are simple, but a lot of people forget the basics and don’t set themselves up for success.
So what did I stack today? Probably the same stuff you all did. I hit Target’s internal order limits on sets like the Ender Dragon, Phone Booth, Family Tree, and Cole’s Titan Mech. I went very heavy on the Space Roller Coaster. A good chunk of Minion houses and Cranes. Some random Friends sets that I feel went under the radar. Some $47.99 Space set I can’t even remember the name of. I managed to pick up a few of the $10 NINJAGO Mechs before they sold out in the first couple minutes. I went in-store for ten hours today and hunted the SKUs that had better pricing in-store than online like Shadow the Hedgehog, more Ender Dragons (since online sold out), and the Minecraft Wolf set.
Basically, my wallet is hurting and we aren’t even done with the week.
I think another important question is — which sets did I avoid / not go as heavy on as expected?
The obvious one is Darth Vader. I just couldn’t bring myself to get a bunch of what I think is one of the most produced and hyped sets of the year. Am I going to regret it? Maybe. Amazon is out of stock and sellers are disappearing quick. I will be the first to admit if I screwed up my call on this one, we’ll see.
Puppy Dogs. Amazing price. Amazing set. Inevitably will be 200%+ ROI. But I was finding 6-10 in every single Target. It’s also still in stock. I expect this one to remain in stock into the new year, although at a higher price, so I didn’t go as deep as I want yet. I’ll pay more later and let Amazon do the holding for me. I got like 20 or something, nothing crazy.
Minecraft Crafting Table. Guessed correctly on this one. Shortly after Target put it on sale Walmart joined in offering it tax free. I’ll just order from Walmart when supply gets low.
The two big modulars — I don’t do oversize sets.
Butthole Tiger — Walmart has thousands upon thousands in stock. I expect them to Black Friday it for the same price but tax free, so I’m waiting.
Anyways, just wanted to provide an update on the day. Kohl’s starts in 2 hours and I’m sure more prices will be updating everyday on various sites.
Stay vigilant!
