Anyways, today I’m here with a 40-minute video analyzing several SKUs from my own hold pile. My goal today is to address a common type of question I have been getting a lot, especially heading into Q4:

“How do you decide when to take profits?”

“How do you decide if it’s the right time to send something in?”

“How do you decide if it’s time to take a loss?”

“How do you know if a SKU is going to climb in price in Q4?”

Here today with ten toys, or rather ten toy lines, to pay attention to this coming Q4 and January clearance season. This is not a BOLO list, do not rush out and buy these. These are toys to just pay a little bit extra attention to that may present some opportunity in the coming months.

Add them to your Keepa product tracker, add them to your daily lists to check, and cross your fingers that we get good prices on them.

The Pokemon Figure Aisle at Target

No, not the trading cards - the action figures. I have never seen so much potential gold in this section before. Jazwares is really leaning into the Pokemon hype and has reprinted or made new versions of some of their heaviest hitters.

First, take a look at how the releases from last year are doing - Charizard and Deoxys. Charizard will only keep climbing this Q4 and Deoxys was on clearance nationwide for $6-9. Crazy ROI from just 9 months ago!

The aisle is now filled with Mewtwo, Blastoise, a different Mega Charizard, Garchomp, Rayquaza, the entire Gengar evolution line, and more. All super popular.

I have never seen the $19.99 figures not get discounted to $13ish during Q4.

That’s when I like to make my entry. Keep your eyes open, lots of opportunity in this section.

Last week I received a ton of DMs and comments about a specific SKU that went on sale on Walmart. This particular SKU was one I had mentioned in an article ten months ago as a toy to keep a close eye on, so I think a lot of people were curious if I was making my entry point.

The most common question I got was,

“Is it time to buy?”

I told everyone, “No.”

But I just had 400 units delivered to my warehouse…

I didn’t lie to the people who inquired - that’s just how fast things change during holiday sales.

So I felt this would be a great full circle teaching moment - a SKU where I can show you guys my thought process from when the SKU released, all the way to the 400 units that arrived at my doorstep today, ten months later.

In this 25-minute video, I ramble about the idea of ‘keeping a close eye’ on this SKU, as well as the multiple moments it went on sale prior and why I didn’t pull the trigger until a few days ago. I touch on some sourcing strategies, sourcing mindset, and really try to drive home the idea that we aren’t necessarily just looking for good toys or good prices - we’re looking for good opportunities. There’s a difference.

This video goes beyond sourcing for just toys, and should be applicable to all sourcing, especially on Walmart.

I always batch Minecraft into the same category as themes like Speed Champions, Star Wars, and Creator. Themes where every practically every set has a large potential customer base, and the investment side of things really comes down to one main uncontrollable - will there be leftover zombie stock going into retirement?

It’s a bit ironic. The themes that sell the most units often tend to have the most sets with remaining zombie stock post-retirement, likely due to Amazon forecasting for that large sales volume and ordering enough to satisfy another several months to years post-retirement. It ends up being a tricky space to navigate, whereas themes with less sales volume seem to have less zombie stock because there is no need for the big retailers to over-order.

Because of that, the most important thing we can do when it comes to investing in these types of themes is focus on buy cost and timing.

We can’t control the production levels, but we can do our best to only purchase sets from these themes when the price is uniquely low or we’re very close to the end of the year (or well into retirement) to reduce hold time.

That’s my main strategy with Minecraft, but let’s dive into the details below because there just might be some sets worth investing in literally right now.

Taking a little break from the LEGO retirees this week to spread the love to the non-LEGO sellers.

Today I’m going to provide some commentary on some interesting things I’m seeing in the toy space, mostly some stuff worth paying attention to in the near future or a little bit down the road.

This is not a BOLO/lead list. Do not rush out and buy these items.

These are toys that are interesting, and pose some consideration MAYBE down the line as we watch Q4 and the big sale seasons unfold. Additionally, it’s to provide some insight into why I think certain things are interesting, so you can apply the analysis to your own findings.

Sonic 3 Movie Figures

2027 is fast approaching, and as toy sellers we always need to be paying attention to the box office.

Which movies are going to impact our businesses next year?

Without a doubt, one of the biggest ones will be ‘Sonic 4’. While the figures for that specific movie are right around the corner, we still want to be paying attention to ‘adjacent’ toys AKA figures from the previous movie.

Why?

Because Sonic 3 figures will be (or are already) discontinued to make way for the new movie figures.

Here is how some of the Sonic 2 movie figures are doing:

Keep in mind, Jakks Pacific essentially killed off the 4-inch versions of the movie figures with the third movie in favor of the 5-inch figures, so these 4-inch ones above aren’t even that sought after anymore, yet still command high prices.

What do you think will happen to the "first time in the line” 5-inch movie figures from the third movie once supply dries up? Could this Q4 wipe out most of the supply? If not, the fourth movie will definitely clean up shop in the spring.

Keep an eye out for the final remnants of the Sonic 3 figures at various retailers, and maybe even some leftover stock at a wholesale distributor or two…

For reference, I am currently holding over 1,000 units of Sonic 3-related merch.

Creator is such an interesting theme. Every set is objectively good. There are no Creator sets that are questionable. All this theme comes down to is how much supply exists at the time of retirement. Will Amazon keep thousands in stock post-retirement like the Fox set? Or will the most random Creator set silently disappear and become one of the best performers of the year, like the Space Roller Coaster from last year?

There is no way to know.

The best advice I can give with this theme, is expect the worst. If you go into Creator with the expectation that sets will remain in stock for 12 months post-retirement, you won’t be disappointed. Then, any early winners are just gravy. This theme, more than many others, is guilty of this phenomenon.

There is no consistency or patterns to identify. Why are the Daffodils, which retired in December, still in stock? Yet, the Lotus Flowers are already out of stock just one week into retirement.

Why is the Exotic Peacock already out of stock, yet Amazon’s Fox is still in stock eight months later?

If you are a long term holder, this is hands down one of the best themes.

If you are a 12-18 month holder like me, this can also be one of the best themes (when you hit the right sets).

But you need to be ready to have some duds that sit around a bit longer than expected.

Most Creator sets have discounts beyond 20% though, especially during Black Friday week, so I really try and avoid purchasing from this theme until then. However, the July retirees are uncharted territory, and we’re seeing sets disappear already. Many of them are still available, so if you think they’re close to disappearing and love them, now may be the time to grab them.

This is a very important theme to understand, as some of the best and worst opportunities come from it every year.

Here today to report on this year’s Marvel LEGO retirees. What better time to talk about Marvel than a few days after the release of Brand New Day? This could be the much needed turnaround that Disney has needed with Marvel, as hype from Spidey should build momentum going into December’s Doomsday.

I am happy to report that I believe we have six really strong winner candidates, and the vast majority falling in the ‘Worth Monitoring’ category, some teetering very close to Winners.

For me personally, this is not a theme that I’m ever super ecstatic about, I’m usually pretty neutral on it. It’s mostly been a theme where I am always monitoring how the supply looks as we get closer to the end of the year and then jumping on niche opportunities to generate some lunch money.

However, looking at 2025 results has me a bit more excited than previous years. You have sleeper sets like the Sandman Final Battle which really popped off due to a very brief discount period and low competition. You even have some of the most talked about sets delivering strong results with the Spidey Mask and Infinity Gauntlet despite being on everyone’s’ radars.

All that to say, you really shouldn’t count out 99% of Marvel sets, as the wide potential customer base can bring some pretty positive results, especially as Marvel hype starts touching all-time highs again.

Here today with one of my favorite themes - Brickheadz! The theme actually had a pretty strong performance last year, with over 25% of the retiring class already being over 100% ROI. Much better than expected after the initial disappointment I had in the 2025 roster of retirees.

In this week’s 28-minute video, we review the 2025 retiring sets to see if we can pick up on any clues for 2026, and then we jump into this year’s retirees. We end up with six that I believe will be solid winners, and all the rest end up in the ‘worth monitoring’ category.

One thing to note, it does seem that Brickheadz have on occasion been removed from Amazon, so be aware of that risk.

Brickheadz is a theme that you want to start investing in earlier than others in the year, due to usually being LEGO store exclusives with limited discount opportunities. In this article, I discuss which set I’ve already begun purchasing to help me reach GWP thresholds as early as the beginning of this year.

Here today with the 2026 LEGO Disney retirees! Why Disney? Because there are some extremely great opportunities that are likely on their last legs this coming weekend and next week.

Overall though, a decent year for Disney. Some July retirees that are likely worth picking up, as well as maybe a contender for one of the stronger sets of the year.

One of the most important points I want everyone to takeaway from this video:

• Week long sales are always evolving. If you are just tuning in once during the week and then moving on, you are going to miss so much. Week long sales need to be monitored throughout the week, ideally multiple times a day. As you’ll see in the video, numerous deals popped up later in the sale and weaved in and out of stock throughout the different days.

Here today with a 30-minute overview of McFarlane Toys. I typically shy away from doing brand specific overviews, but due to multiple requests I figured this was a good one to make an exception for.

The reason I tend to not do brand specific overviews is that I never want to persuade or dissuade someone from investing in a specific toy line. If I say “McFarlane Toys is great”, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s great for you.

As always, I preach that you should focus on intellectual properties that you care about - it makes the job a lot more profitable.

On the flip side, I also don’t want to discourage people from certain brands. You all know I despise investing in most Star Wars stuff… but there is profit to be made if you’re passionate about the IP and understand the fandom.

But despite that, I figured that McFarlane Toys is something I talk about a lot, and is a brand that encapsulates a lot of interesting things that can be applied to researching other toy lines, so here we go!
